A Humble Beginning
The spark that ignited our brand was a modest $250 McLane 20” reel mower with an original Briggs and Stratton engine. Despite the budget constraints, we dove headfirst into the reel mowing experience. This journey wasn’t just about cutting grass; we were proud of our home and wanted to impress family, friends, and anyone passing by. A great-looking lawn only amplifies the home’s appearance.
The Front Roller Revelation
The love for reel mowing found its roots in the desire to make our lawn stand out. In our new neighborhood of 190 properties, three Bermuda lawns, maintained with Tru Cut 27” reel mowers boasting smooth front rollers, caught our eye. Achieving the same beautiful stripes that you see on professional sports fields and golf courses became our quest.
Meeting the Maestro: Steven Anderson
Welcome to Reel Rollers, your premier destination for all things reel mowing. Founded in 2012 by Lee and Ashley Purcell, Reel Rollers has evolved from a passion project into a leading force in the reel mowing community.
OUR BRAND
Our journey began in 2011 when we moved into our Buford, GA home with its impressive 12,000 sq ft Empire™ Zoysia lawn. The allure of reel mowing captured our hearts, sparking a journey that led to the birth of Reel Mower Roller, LLC, in 2012 and eventually transforming into Reel Rollers.

Meeting the Maestro: Steven Anderson
The search for the elusive front roller led us to Steven Anderson, the owner of Reel Works, a reel mower service shop. Anderson, a seasoned professional with over 40 years of experience, not only supplied the missing piece for our mower but also unveiled the story of designing, inventing, and patenting the smooth front roller for residential reel mowers.
The Birth of Reel Mower Roller, LLC
The encounter with Anderson marked a turning point. Inspired by the transformative impact of the front roller on our own lawn, we saw an opportunity to share this innovation with the reel mowing community. Reel Mower Roller, LLC was born in 2012, soon proudly becoming the online dealer of the “Reel Roller.”
Growth and Recognition
The roller business started as a side venture, with Steven Anderson handling production and my wife and I managing customer service. However, by 2015, Reel Rollers was gaining recognition within the reel mowing community, doubling roller sales every year. In 2017, the opportunity arose to purchase the “Reel Rollers” name and patents from Steven as he planned to retire.
A Leap of Faith
The acquisition propelled Reel Rollers from a garage operation to a fully-fledged enterprise. The journey involved renting a building in downtown Buford, expanding product lines, and establishing partnerships with manufacturers. The introduction of Swardman reel mowers in 2018 marked a significant milestone, turning Reel Rollers into a household name.

Expanding Horizons: Smooth and Grooved Front Rollers
The initial focus on smooth front rollers laid the foundation for Reel Rollers’ product line. The SideKick mower stand, height of cut stickers, engine service kits, backlap adapters, lapping compound, the Grass Topper, and the SPANCH Tool were introduced to cater to the diverse needs of reel mowing enthusiasts. The expansion of product lines became a testament to Reel Rollers’ commitment to providing comprehensive solutions for maintaining and enhancing reel mowers.
Beyond Borders: Introducing Tru Cut, California Trimmer, and McLane Parts
Our dedication to being a one-stop destination for reel mowing enthusiasts led to partnerships with renowned brands. The inclusion of Tru Cut, California Trimmer, and McLane parts in our inventory marked a strategic move to offer a wide array of choices, ensuring that our customers could find the perfect fit for their reel mowers.
Swardman Partnership: Bringing Innovation to the USA
In 2018, we expanded our product offerings by becoming the exclusive dealer and distributor of Swardman reel mowers in the USA. This partnership brought innovation to the forefront, introducing a different kind of reel mower to the American market. The move demonstrated Reel Rollers’ commitment to staying at the forefront of the reel mowing landscape.
The Revolution 26: A Bold Step Forward
2022 presented challenges in the supply chain, prompting us to rethink our approach. In response, the decision was made to create The Revolution 26, a commercially built reel mower with a residential reel mower price. Launched on September 1, 2023, this mower not only addressed supply chain issues but also showcased our dedication to pushing the boundaries of innovation.
